Daytona Beach Homes: After Move-In Day

Wed, Feb 03, 2016 at 9:25PM

Are you new to the Daytona Beach area? Welcome! With our area being so full of activities and natural excursions for people of every age, we know you’ll love it here. In today’s blog, we are looking at a few things you can do following move-in day to “break in” your new home and get to know your space… as well as the community around it.

You’ve finally unloaded the last box from the truck and are ready to make your new house truly yours. But besides simply opening boxes, there are a number of things you can do to usher yourself in…

Explore the house

Though it’s a natural next step anyway, the first thing you should following the move is, of course, explore your new home! Before getting right into the business of unpacking and moving furniture, take some time to soak it all in and learn the ins and outs of the house. Find out what different switches do, where the storage is, where your pet will sleep… the small, fun details that make a move fun!

Of course, it will be a while before you’re fully accustomed to your new space, and that’s okay! Part of the fun of the weeks, months and—sometimes—years following a move is the constant discovery of new quirks of the home. This is simply a chance for you to get accustomed to your new living space.

Enjoy a tasty dinner

After a busy day of travel or unloading boxes and furniture, you deserve a tasty, hearty meal. Enjoy a momentous “first meal” in the home to satisfy your need to eat and to commemorate the special day.

Have an unpacking party

Make standard post-move tasks like unpacking a little more fun by hosting an “unpacking party” for family and friends. Whether it’s just your immediate family or those who came from out of the area to help you get settled in, show your appreciation for everyone by providing snacks, music and plenty of unpacking to do.

Relax outdoors

Was your move particularly stressful? Unwind by heading into the pool, lounging on the patio or throwing around the football—whatever it takes to really break in your outdoor space and enjoy some much-needed downtime after a lengthy move.

Get to know the community

Once you’ve settled into your home after the big move, it’s time to get to know the community! Head to local parks, shopping centers, bookstores, libraries and other places where you might like to spend some time. This is a great way to find your new favorite spots to eat, shop and spend time in, and will prevent you from feeling too secluded in your own home—especially if you’ve moved in from far away.

Spend time with the family

The key thing to remember about putting a cap on your move-in process? It’s all about family! Start a long tradition of good memories in your new home now by enjoying a movie together in your new living room, having friends over, or any other activity that gets everyone in one room.

Whether you celebrate the big move with one, two or all of these ideas, we want to welcome you to our community!
